Christening Dish

It was a lot of pressure to figure out what recipe I should christen the kitchen section of the blog with, but I figured you can’t go wrong with a meatloaf.  I tried this pretty simple version of a turkey meatloaf using a crock pot and it will feed the two of us for a few days.  It was pretty good.  Ann liked it even though I found out after preparing it that she didn’t like meatloaf.

We also created a drink (I can say that because there was no description of one on google).  It’s a combination of a Sonic Cherry Limeade and a mojito (with an added splash of coconut and orange juice).  I think we may call it a sonjito. (Sonic+mojito)  Pretty good.

3 lbs. ground turkey
3 eggs
2 cups bread crumbs
3 Tbsp butter
1 red onion
2 cloves garlic
2 tsp marjoram
salt, pepper, and parsley to taste

Brown the chopped onion and garlic in butter.  Mix 1/4 cup water with eggs, bread crumbs, spices, and add onions from skillet.  Mix half of mixture with ground turkey.  Place half of the meat mixture into the bottom of the crock pot.  Layer the rest of the bread crumb mix on top and then the other half of the meat.  Cover with ketchup. (I’m glad we used up all of our Wal-mart brand, now we can splurge on Heinz)  Cook on low for 12-14 hours.

I learned afterwards that plating the finished beast of a meatloaf was a lot more of a job that realized.  I researched and found some nifty ways to line the crock pot with foil to use as a way to pull it out once cooked.  Overall a good attempt at documenting one of the first experiment dishes on the blog.  Stay hungry for more!
